things to improve quality of life

December, cleanse me. Allow me to leave behind what doesn’t serve me, without leaving traces of resentment or bitterness in my footsteps. Give me the abundance to attract connections and opportunities that see flowers in me but have no inclination to pluck them. Give me flight! – Billy Chapta

Phew! It has been a ride indeed. This has been my declaration and prayers for the month of December. 2020 has been one of the best years of my life and a blink later we’ll be running into 2021. November was a flash, Christmas will be here in no time and another script will be laid open.

It’s is that time of the year when you take a step back to revamp, reassess and evaluate your life before new chapters are drawn out. And to be honest my thoughts are loitering around, hooked on where to actually start this reflection or reevaluation, what changes need to be made and what really needs to be decluttered to usher in the new year or prepare for the new year.

It is necessary that we all do a proper revamping and reassessing our life from time to time to create a new slate for the year. I usually make tweaks and changes to my life at the beginning of the week or month, I necessarily do not wait for the new year to come crawling in to implement resolutions, goals, and intentions and I urge you to do the same.

And if you have no idea on how to properly evaluate and revamp your life that is no problem at all, The Life Compass Workbook has been created as a guide that will take you on a sequential process of accessing, evaluating, organizing, reinventing and resetting your life. I used The Life Compass Workbook for 3 months and the changes it made in my life were positively encouraging that I couldn’t keep it as a personal material and so I decided to share it as a roadmap of self-improvement and wellness with every one of my illuminators.

I want you in the forthcoming year to be able to set aside your worries and set into place peace, edification, and pure joy and you can achieve this by proper planning. I have outlined certain changes that I want to incorporate into my life before the year ends and I will be sharing them with you.

Here are a list of mindset, tactical, financial, mental and physical changes you can make for a happier 2021.

I know this sounds a lot but you don’t have to feel overwhelmed by these steps. At the end of this article, I have attached a 30 day challenge you can embark on that is guaranteed to massively improve the quality of your life.

how to improve yourself everyday

Mindset Changes

These words have been borrowed from Billy Chapta

1.  Forgiving yourself and others -Stop waiting for an apology from the people who hurt you to finally give yourself permission to heal. Make love to the parts of yourself that old connections disconnected. Dip the parts they broke in self-love, wait for no one to come along and kiss your wounds.

2.  Stop settling for mediocrity -There are some who will be able to comprehend you on the surface and be completely unable to dive into the depths you have to offer. There are some who will be fascinated by the oceans within you, and be unable to swim in the waves you give off- Do not settle for mediocrity.

3.  Discounting your inherent worth -What you know about yourself is more important than what people think your intentions are. Not everyone will choose to see the good in you but what people think of you has nothing to do with who you are. Don’t muddy your own water by wiping away dirt that doesn’t belong to you.

4.  Focusing on your shortcomings rather than your growth and potential -Find no shame in starting over, find no shame in going back to the root and beginning again. Find no shame in rerouting because the path you took no longer gives you life. Find no shame in admitting that you made mistakes along the way. Find no shame in starting over.

5.  Relying on external validation -Stop asking for permission to be you, you don’t need anyone’s approval or recognition to live your truth. Validation is cheap therapy.

6.  Self-sabotage -Darling, it ended because it ran out its course and the universe is preparing you for something new. You can stop holding yourself accountable for friendships that dwindled out. You can stop holding yourself accountable for relationships that died. You can stop mistreating yourself.

7.  Learning to be patient – When the waves are not flowing your way, learn to be still in the moments that your mind is tempted to run. Learn that just because concern invites itself to the table does not mean that you have to feed it. Learn that your inner compass is never wrong.

8.  Quit Staying in unhealthy relationships -You deserve connections that don’t require you to walk on eggshells to get a point across. You don’t deserve connections that require you to sacrifice your peace just to protect feelings or egos. You deserve connections that don’t require you to distance yourself, from yourself.

9.  Work on positive talk -The universe has no opinion of you, the universe only reacts off the energy you give it. Your actions and thoughts are keys and shackles!

10.  Accept your imperfections -Show me the magic that exists within. Let me unearth buried diamonds in my soul that I’ve ignored in the past, let the love I have for myself be so loud that it silences unnecessary opinions in my ear. May truth continue to find me even when the world shuts its lights off.

11.  Shying away from discomfort of the unknown -Fear will keep you in cycles that seem never-ending, while doubts lurk in the background playing games with your soul. Drown your worries and concerns in honesty and light, so you can finally meet with your future.

12.  Evaluate if your actions are bringing you closer to your goals.

13.  Take responsibility for your life/actions.

14.  Accept that you cannot control everything.

15.  Stop transgressing your own boundaries.

16.  Allowing others to transgress your boundaries.

17.  Acting inauthentically.

18.  Putting others’ needs before your own.

19.  Taking responsibility for things you shouldn’t.

20.  Being unwilling to forgive yourself.

21.  Compromising your beliefs and values.

22.  Saying ‘yes’ when you want to say ‘no’.

23.  Repeating patterns (regardless of the outcome).

24.  Suppressing emotions.

25.  Prioritizing coping over healing.

26.  Not taking responsibility.

27.  Focusing on the past, not the present or future.

28. Maintain important friendships.

29.  Refusing to seek support/help.

30.  Apologizing for who you are.

31.  Minimizing your own feelings.

32. Carefully consider the compromises you make.

33.  Overextending yourself to be enough.

34.  Voice out your opinions.

35.  Be honest with yourself.

36.  Practice healthy communications.

37.  Pursue personal growth.

38.  Reflect on what you believe.

50.  Eliminate unhealthy routines/practices.

51.  Establish and maintain boundaries.

Tactical Changes

1.  There is no better way to start planning your year than with a clean and repaired home. I will be getting my room re-painted, decorated with new furniture and pictures hanged. I am proclaiming 2020 as a year of clarity in terms of work and mental health so I have to be ready. Decluttering enables you to have the clean space to revamp, meet up your intentions and plans for the new year.

2.  Self-check -The first thing we ought to prioritize before the year ends is a self-check. Give yourself a self-check by evaluating, ask questions where are you slacking, and what needs to be tackled.

3.  Start and finish your 2020 with a social media-free week -This may be a hard step to take, but you can start by simply portioning the amount of time you spend on these social media platforms.

4.  Digital dump -I started doing this with my email and it has been a process, you don’t have to take a chunk of time off your day to do this. Go through your desktop and phones. I have so many files, screenshots, videos, and God knows what else that I totally needed to trash to manage the space on my computer and phone.

5.  Create a playlist of interesting podcasts -This is on my to-do list of the topics I haven’t share, some podcasts have really been motivating, inspiring and empowering. Create a list of interesting podcasts or audiobooks you want to listen to throughout the year. Make them super accessible.

2020 planning party

6.  Turn off all your phone notifications and create time limits on all those applications that you know are taking so much of your time and happiness. I personally started with Instagram I spend 30 minutes a day and after that, I disable the application. There is something so deep and cleansing with taking yourself off the several social media platforms.

7.  Book all your appointment -Book your first appointment and all the other appointments, that way you’ll feel organized.

8.  Plan in your 1st 3 months and fill them with really fun activities you’ll look forward to for the start of the year.

9.  Host a family dinner or party.

10.  Decide on one thing you are going to stop doing that you want to start doing in the new year that can help the world. It could simply be to stop using plastic bags or to start purchasing faux fur instead of real fur.

11.  Make a collection of different things that inspire you. The reason is having a compilation of motivating words, positive words of encouragement and inspirational words will go a long way in motivating your new year resolutions, reach your goals and allow you to crush your intentions. Having different sayings will enable you to get things done and I can refer to it as often as I want to.

I will be having 12 days to Christmas inspirational doze on Instagram where I’ll share insightful quotes, posts, an excerpt that will excite and motivate your aspirations and journey for the new year on my Instagram; if you are not following me you should. We are going to be loosening bundles of positivity together and other presents of self-growth and development.

12.  Host a 2020 planning party with you and your friends. If your friends are not into this, you can find people on the internet who are interested in a 2020 planning party.

13.  Write a big list of all your wins in the past year -Think about the small wins and big wins you accomplished in the year and flow with that high feeling. Making this list makes me feel good and successful, marking my achievements even when the beginning started off on a rough patch enables me to express more gratitude. Celebrate the small victories, the quiet wins, the silent achievements, celebrate the magic that happens behind the curtains, clap for yourself even when no one else is watching –Billy Chapata

14.  Write a list of your favorite moments from the past year. This will leave you feeling good and nostalgic. Time runs by so fast and catching the train of adventure makes us thankful! You’ll also be able to reflect, evaluate and plan better.

15.  Sort your self-care -Get your self-care routine sorted before 2020. We are constantly lost in the struggle of survival that we do less than what we deserve. This could be doing meal prep, signing up for yoga class, taking more time to rest. You’ve made a habit of putting others before yourself, but when was the last time you checked in with you? You’ve been running around making sure everyone is catered to, while you wait in the background starving at the same table you set out for them. You deserve to be fed too.

16.  Go to a conference, workshop or meet up that will get you excited and rejuvenated for 2020.

17.  Do a mini-challenge in December to get ready for January -Indulge in a mini-challenge that can get you ready for January. It could be 7 days of yoga, 7 days of meditation, etc. Pick any challenge just so you can refresh your mind and create a sense of accomplishment.

18.  Create a vision board to keep you really inspired in the New Year.

19.  Create an Insta filled with inspiration -Follow a bunch of profiles on Instagram that are super inspiring like mine. I personally love to follow Instagram profiles that create edifying content and directives. Rather than clicking through a feed of entertainment, you are edified as well. It could be people who post fitness routine, self-care routines. These are the kind of people you need to follow to kick off your 2020 in the right way. Find them, and as well unfollow a bunch of people that ain’t bringing you joy, create a whole new social media.

1.  Create for ‘you time’.

2.  Start (or continue) a journaling practice. (The Life Compass Journal is all you need to reset your life, make the mandatory soulful changes and get in tune with yourself)

3.  Take intentional daily time to tune into your body.

4.  Reconnect with your values, beliefs, and intentions.

5.  Carve out time to do a short daily self-check-in.

6.  Replace some social media time with creativity time.

7.  Implement a breathwork + mindfulness practice.

8.  Pick a new skill or topic to learn about.

9.  Pay attention to your feelings, thoughts + emotions.

10.  Practice rituals that allow you to transition between different areas of your life.

11.  Discern between your energy and the energy of others often.

12.  Allow yourself to create separation between your responsibility and the responsibility of others.

13.  Have your own support system and utilize it.

14.  Remind yourself that having a tender heart means using it to take care of you first.

15.  Log off, tune out, take breaks, find ease, laugh, sing, dance, express, and tap into your lightness, too.

16.  Love yourself more and do more for yourself. Self-love is a journey that requires you to show up in your fullest, entirely naked, open and flawed.

3.  Make goal-based financial plans.

6.  Invest your money monthly.

8.  Live below your means and avoid lifestyle inflation.

9.  Think about depreciation -Buy things that hold value!

10.  Track your net worth!

good personal habits

Before you go here is a crucial reminder: -Even if you’re not where you want to be physically, financially, spiritually or emotionally, understand that every version of yourself is deserving of love. You don’t have to sabotage your being because it is taking longer than you want to reach your destination.

A new phase can be really overwhelming and I want you to slow down and take your time even if it’s just a few changes you can make; the most important thing is that you are moving one step every day.

Transitioning and making changes to life is a journey. It can’t just be done in a day or months, it is composed of continual efforts and practices; the most important thing is that you keep moving forward.

You can start by decluttering the littlest things every day, meditating for 10-15 minutes, constructing the template for your vision board.

Just take it slowly even if it’s sliding your curtains open to let the sun rays in, don’t stay curled up in one spot. The world is moving, you have to move with it even if with baby steps.

Ensure that you go through all my post *winks* there are some hidden treasures, tips, and ideas that can rapidly improve your life. I do hope to hear good and positive feedbacks until next time…Love and light.
