1.  Reading

Keep Yourself Busy Quotes

I saw reading as an interesting exercise. I love reading – well, as a writer I do not have so many choices, do I? Whenever I’m alone at home and a feeling of boredom creeps in, I pick up a poetic book and in no time, I find myself immersed in the beautiful words.

You could also do this whenever you are alone at home. When next you suddenly feel bored, hush that feeling by picking up a book and engage your mind. You can download my free e-book ROOTS for a start to feast on; an ultimate mantra list and positive affirmation to spur you up for success.

2.  Try Calling Someone You Haven’t Called In A While!

how to keep yourself busy at work

When you are not alone at home, then usually you’re very busy. This means that there is a high chance that you might have lost touch with some important persons in your life in the course of your busyness. You can use your “boredom time” to call these people.

Hearing from them again brings a sweet and refreshing feeling of excitement. This could help refresh your mind and get you busy. Looking at it from personal experience, I know I’m a very busy person.

There are tens of tasks waiting for me every hour and sometimes, I get carried away. However, when I’m alone at home, with not so much on my hands to do, I pick my phone and call someone I have not spoken to in a while! The soothing feeling that comes thereafter is indescribable.

Plus, I have succeeded in using my spare time for something productive.

So, when next you are bored because you have nothing to do, pick up your phone, identify those numbers you have not reached out to in a while and call them!

3.  Take Online Quizzes On Websites

There are hundreds of websites where you can get quizzes and questions to keep your mind busy. A good example is Quora.com. On Quora.com, you can get mind-boggling questions and within minutes of answering them, you find yourself engaged and busy.

Added to the fact that you are engaged and busy, you are also getting more knowledge and giving out knowledge as well. One thing I state here is that in knowing how to keep yourself busy at home, the activities you engage in must be not be limited to physical activities.

Mental exercises and quizzes can also help in strengthening your mind and getting it active, which of course is the basic reason for learning how to keep yourself busy at home.

4.  Writing A Story/Poem

I might have a special bias towards this point. I mean, I am a writer and I love what I do. Whenever I am bored at home, I pick up my pen and scribble all thoughts from my well of ideas.

They could be poems, stories or articles that have been hiding in the corners of my heart. Also, I am using this opportunity to sharpen my skills but trying out new styles, words or constructions.

5.  Apply For Jobs Online

The world is a global village now. You could be in Africa and start working for an employer in Asia. All you need to do is have a good and strong internet connection and you are good to go.

Why waste your time doing nothing and being bored when you can actually use that period to making money for yourself thankfully there are a lot of websites and freelance platforms where you can work for fees and register for free.

A very good example is Fiverr.com. Before I started Blogging, Fiverr was one of the platforms I earned and you can do the same.

6.  Exercise!!!

Why be bored when you can expend your energy in getting productivity for your body? There are many exercises you can comfortably do in your house to boost your health and fitness.

If you are short of ideas, you can go online and search for easy exercise activities you can get yourself involved with and do them. By doing them, you are helping yourself and growing your health.

As I have stated earlier, in the journey of knowing how to keep yourself busy at home, it is important that you place a priority on the busyness and healthiness of your mind and thankfully exercises help in doing just that.

7.  Planning A To-Do List For The Next Few Days

how to keep yourself busy at work

In many of my articles, I have written about the importance of having a to-do list and planning out some things you would want to do for the next few hours, days or even weeks.

You can check out my post on Productivity- 9 Things to do on a Sunday, to have a more productive week, 10 exceptional things successful people do during the weekends as a guide to creating a productive weekend and you could expend your spare time in writing out some of the things you would love to do in the coming days. You can also purchase the Goal Chaser Planner that will enable you to organize your whole life in a few months.

Whatever they are, write them according to your order of priority and scrutinize them. You would be expanding your time in something more productive by doing that.

8.  Decluttering

From my personal experience, I know that there are times when the whole house gets messy and disorganized and all you just want to do is arrange the room. You can utilize the spare time you have, by rearranging your room and giving it a new look. Take out your clothes and do your laundry.

Check out for things that are not supposed to be where they are and place them in their rightful positions. De-cluttering is a beautiful thing as it gives a sense of satisfaction after you’re done with the whole process.

9.  Photography

how to keep yourself busy after a breakup

The world of photography is a beautiful place to be. Capturing images and giving life to still objects is a beautiful activity. For the time you will spend doing absolutely nothing, you can pick up a camera and go on a photography walk.

Take cool pictures, edit them, give them life and who knows? You might even make a few bucks off them. Your ability to create new things will bring you a sense of satisfaction and help you hone your skill. Photography is a beautiful world with endless possibilities and you can utilize the beautiful power of your lens in curing your boredom.

10.  Watching A Movie!

how to make yourself busy and happy

I know I have talked about writing, reading and all sorts of book-related stuff but now I am going to suggest that you watch a movie. Watching movies help to relieve you of the tension you might have accrued during the day. You get connected to the actors on the screen and get distracted from the worries you might have accumulated.

Thankfully, there are beautiful movies around and you can just pick up one and de-stress yourself by feasting your eyes on the beauty of the story. There is no excuse for boredom, do something!

Now, those are some of the things you can do in solving the problem of how to keep yourself busy at home. Keeping yourself busy at home can be as easy as pie if only you have ideas about what to do.

So, do not give boredom the chance to consume your time and waste your precious energy. Get out and get active today!

Just before you leave, here is a list of motivating and inspiring quotes to keep the flame and momentum burning in keeping yourself busy when you are bored because idleness to the human mind is like rust is to iron.
