how to organize your life in a week

One thing I have come to realize and accept all through my experience of survival is that life isn’t trying to break you down but rather life is trying to break you open by the challenges, failure, setbacks, and limitations we are all exposed to, in order to grow and take charge of how we live our lives.

And this process isn’t always easy there comes a lot of disorientation, setbacks, drawbacks, crossroads of regrets but all leading to the endpoint of you taking charge, and through this tough process it is vehemently important that we are equipped with the right resources and guidance we need to effectively stay on track, organize our lives amidst the chaos, take charge and create a fulfilling life.

Tracking the hands of time back, my life was on a wheel of disorientation. I didn’t know how to find balance with my life, I didn’t know how to keep every area of my life in order, I couldn’t figure out what to do with my life goals, how to achieve them, the necessary actionable steps to take. I couldn’t handle my finances, invest in my self, take care of my self, manage relationships and it was really bad. I was simply chasing the wrong things that weren’t fulfilling until I decided to take charge of my personal growth, uplevel my life, and create a fulfilling life and I will be sharing all the helpful steps and resources I took in regaining control, improving, and organizing my life.

Taking charge of your personal growth or learning how to organize your life is essential if you have dreams of being great in life. A lot of us today have aspirations as high as anything else but lack the basic requirement of staying organized; we lack the basic skill of knowing how to put things in order at all times.

Organization is an important factor for growth. Growing in all aspects of your life requires a lot of things and the first on the list is organization. Learning how to organize yourself, activities, and thoughts matter in various ways. The typical human has an average of 70,000 thoughts in a day.

Having such a large number of thoughts locked in your head within the space of 24 hours has a way of causing mental chaos which would tell on other aspects of your life.

Taking control of your life and everything you do is very important. And to take charge of your life, you have to learn the secret of ORGANIZATION.

Organization is the act or process of planning and arranging different parts of an event or activity. It is the process of preparing yourself for whatever task you have ahead so as not to be confused.

Many people want to be effective and live a fulfilled life but lack good organizational skills. They only end up wasting their years. Having good organizational skills is very important, even in the corporate world. As a matter of fact, many companies lookout for this particular skill in their prospective employees.

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to be disorganized? Being disorganized affects your mental health, and make you make irrational decisions. Due to the speed with which invasive thoughts come in, a disorganized mind does not know the beauty of peace.

On the flip side, an organized mind experiences nothing but serenity. An organized mind allows for creativity and opens the mind to a free flow of ideas. So, if you are struggling with creativity, it might just be because you haven’t learned how to organize your life.

Organization does not only have to do with the mind. Your physical, financial, and social lives also require arrangements. Many persons admire people with organized lives but are they willing to pay the sacrifice for building one?

how to organize your life in a day

So, in this article, I have written down guidelines on how to ensure that you live and reflect an organized life. I must warn, if you are here to get little make-up-your-mind tips like “oh, you just have to pick a pen and a piece of paper and list out what you want to do”, then you have come to the wrong place.

Alright, let’s get to business now, shall we?

1.  Write Things Down

how to organize your life with a notebook

You have to learn how to organize your life with a notebook. Well, I know I said you should not be expecting a “pick a pen and a piece of paper” advice, but I think would actually be needing those. One of the best ways to get organized is by knowing how to make a list of what you want to achieve per time.

It is very important to know the use of listing. Keep a journal if need be. I have a journal where I write down the things I want to get achieved. I termed it my aspirational list; I ensure that I write them in order of priority so as to have a sense of direction as I accomplish the goals. Having a list enhances your planning ability.

Also, having a list for writing things down, helps you avoid forgetfulness. With the plethora of activities that might clog your table, it is very possible to forget a whole lot. If you have certain dates that are important to you, you do not need to compound everything in your brain as you will be stressing it out. You could make good use of writing materials.

There have been times when this little act of writing things in my planner has saved me the hassle of making some severe mistakes, running at losses, and staying up on track with my several activities.

I have a truckload of activities that I always work on and most times it can be really overwhelming to keep tabs of those activities that have been attended to but with an effective planner, I am able to outline my schedule, portion my activities and track each and every one of them.

If you are still in search of a productive planner that will keep track of all the activities you have to handle then our Goal Chaser Planner is the best call for you!

2.  Make Schedules And Deadlines

organize my life planner

Making schedules is essential in knowing how to organize your life. Schedules help you to restrict your actions. Scheduling is the process of making a plan on how to go about your day. Scheduling is an important part of getting organized. It is a necessary part of building your organizational skills.

It is very possible to get lost in the busyness of the day. You get to face a lot of meetings, frequent interruptions, and urgent last-minute tasks and it goes on and on. You can get trapped in the web of activities and get involved in so many things at once if you do not have a schedule. Scheduling helps you to:

  • Understand what you can or can’t achieve realistically with your time.
  • Create time for essential things.
  • Create time for impromptu tasks.
  • Achieve a good work-life balance.
  • Achieve your personal and career goals.
  • Have enough time for family and friends, hobbies, and exercises.
  • Monitor the amount of time you give to certain activities.

Setting a time for what you intend to do helps stay organized even in the face of pressure. Another important part of scheduling is having deadlines.

A deadline is a date or time when something must be finished. It is important to have personal deadlines. When you have a list of tasks on your table, having deadlines for each will improve your productivity towards such tasks.

3.  Don’t Procrastinate

Procrastination is the thief of time. You would never know how to organize your life if you do not battle procrastination. Procrastination is the act of being slow or late about doing something that should be done. It is a dangerous habit to cultivate and it hampers growth and personal development.

I was -and still am- battling this problem. Sometimes, you feel like resting and ignoring what you really should be doing while making tons of silly excuses for not doing it. I get that feeling too but that would do more harm than good to you. If you are supposed to do something at a particular time, do it. Do not delay or defer.

When you refuse to take responsibility and do what you are supposed to do at a particular period, you are setting yourself up for failure.

Now, I know this habit might be one hard one to break but with conscious efforts and steps, you can break it. If you are battling with procrastination, you can never actualize your goal to live an effective life.

4.  Declutter And Simplify

This is one simple trick to getting to live an organized life that many people are not aware of. Find one time in a week to ensure that you organize your things. Your books, gadgets, disturbing accessories, your working area (I am so guilty of this, argghhh…) and other things should have a place of their own. Highly organized people know how to organize things.

Things don’t get organized on their own; they need the input of a human and if the human is one who does not value organization, then the whole house would be a mess. You can check out other areas of my blog to read more on decluttering and the simple steps to simplifying your life.

Now, let’s talk about the other aspect of this point: simplification. Simplification is the process of making things easy. Instead of clogging things up to cause further chaos, you should adopt the habit of simplifying things.

When there is a heap of books all piled up and you have no idea what they are there for or you realize that some of the books have become redundant, it is best that take down the heap of books and simplify them but carefully choosing the needed ones and disposing of the useless ones.

5.  Get A Home For Everything

Staying organized requires that you have a home for everything around you. Even as a human, it is easy to get lost if you do not have a home. As a part of staying organized, it is important to ensure that you keep your things in the proper places.

Have specific places for specific things. Organized people ensure that order is maintained in their private places by storing things properly and labeling the storage spaces.

One of the most precious advice my mum gave me growing up, was the fact that I needed to understand that various items in the home are usually labeled based on the frequency of their use.

For the items you use frequently, ensure that you make easy-to-access storage for them. Creatively pick spots for certain items. Ensure that you do not label any spot “miscellaneous”. That would only help increase disorganization.

6.  Get A Money Management App

Knowing how to organize your life involves financial intelligence too. Money management apps are applications that help users manage their spending, budget, and savings. Knowing how to organize your financial life is very important to your overall success and growth. If you do not master the art of taking charge of your financial life, you would, in no time, be on your way to penury.

Getting a money management app does a lot in helping you to stay financially conscious and alert. I have an application on my phone where I save up a part of my monthly income.

The app helps me separate the money meant for long term savings from the money meant for short term savings. Also, in the application, I get a lot of investment opportunities so my money can be making more money for me while being safe.

Having a money management app also helps you budget appropriately. No matter what your business is, budgeting is very crucial. Budgeting helps you boost your productivity based on the fact that you already have a particular amount allotted to specific needs.

Staying organized means that you are in charge and being in charge has to be holistic. Another benefit of having a personal finance application is that it aids the personal accounting process. You would agree with me that accounting is one of the most important ways of staying organized.

It is basically knowing what you spent a particular amount on and ensuring that it is judiciously spent. If you intend to take charge of your financial life, then you should be ready to take accounting seriously and you can do that by getting a personal finance or money management app.

7.  Prioritize Appropriately

how to organize your daily routine

Knowing how to organize your life involves mastering the art of putting first things first! Start attending to your needs from the most important to the least important. It is very possible to get distracted by the urgency of a particular issue and get blind to the important ones.

As I stated in the very first point, make a list and attach an order to the list. Know what you want to achieve first and go for it. In Stephen Covey’s The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, he emphasized that it is easy to get distracted but this is where discipline comes into the picture. Whatever you are supposed to do at a particular time, ensure you do it!

8.  Take Breaks

I am an advocate for taking breaks, especially from social spaces. I call it a “social media fast”. Taking breaks helps you to ensure that your sanity is still intact.

I remember a time when I literally had no time for myself anymore. I was consumed by the temporary satisfaction that my social media pages gave to me. I figured that I needed to work on establishing a space so I took a break.

That was one of the most productive breaks I ever took. It allowed me to concentrate on other things that were starved of attention when I was deep into the social media thingy.

Also, I came back refreshed and in order to keep up with that feeling, I figured that I needed to block certain people on my pages and I did. Taking breaks is highly essential in knowing how to organize your daily routine.
