1.  Get Rid Of The Negatives

Negativity is a fence built around your life to shut out happiness and self-fulfillment.

Negative thoughts, actions or people are very harmful to your health as they only leave you worrying and unsure about even the slightest thing that ought to be under your control. Of course, there are times when it is okay to have little doubts and be a bit unsure about certain things and there are other times when we should be able to maintain 100 percent positivity.

Even when you are unsure, you should allow your positive thoughts to flood your entire mind. Little wonder why optimists mostly live a very fulfilled and easy life because they have permanently registered in their subconscious minds that things are always going to work out. In doing this, they have successfully shut out worry from their lives. Hence, they tend to live a more simplified life.

Getting rid of the negatives does not only apply to negative thoughts or feelings. It actually has a lot more to do with getting rid of negative people. People who deter your growth process, who see only the bad side and never the good. The only way to simplifying your life is to get rid of those kinds of persons.

Negative ideas and people are toxic and it is a fact that when you surround yourself with positive people, you get positive results but when you let toxic and negative people surround you, the reverse is the case. You should be very sensitive about toxic people as your sensitivity goes a long way in realizing how to simplify your life and home.

When you notice that the people you surround yourself with always fill your mind up with either complaints, worries or what-if’s, it is better to push out such sets of persons. In learning how to simplify your life, you should learn how to push out those toxic and negative people who do not add value to you.

2.  Practice Cheap Or Affordable Self-Care

Work and life stress can almost be inevitable even though we try our best to simplify life. The only option or remedy to keep your mind and body in the most perfect condition is to properly care for yourself. When you practice self-care, you would discover that you start to feel lighter and much happier.

Most people shy away from self-care activities because they feel that they are too costly. Regardless of the fact that you are simplifying your life, it is important to take proper care of yourself.

There are several ways this can be done by easily practicing cheap and affordable self-care activities which would build a happier you. This is very important because it makes you feel better about yourself and very confident too.

Some of these self-care ideas can be as simple as taking long walks, cool showers and eating fruits and vegetables.

3.  Pay Off Your Debts And Live Within Your Means

Managing your finances is very important in simplifying life. In managing your finances, it is important to be able to make do with the material resources at your disposal. Learn to do away with unnecessary and flamboyant spending. There are debts and there are bad debts.

Debts are the additional expenses incurred when you are not able to manage your earnings to cover your needs. While bad debts are the expenses that were really not necessary but you had an unquenchable urge to get even when your earnings couldn’t cover it.

Debts take you a step forward and ten steps back because the more you get the things you can’t afford, the more your bills increase.

When you are not able to manage your resources, you find out that borrowing or taking loans are inevitable. And when do you take those loans, your mind is never at rest or fully settled until you pay them off. This has a way of affecting your overall performance in your daily activities.

Sometimes, taking loans are very risky because once the payment deadline is around the corner and you have not been able to raise the money, you end up settling and seeking for an alternative which would most likely be borrowing or taking loans elsewhere to pay for the previous loan.

Learning how to simplify your life means being able to pay off debts incurred and manage your available resources. If you cannot afford to pay your cable subscription, changing your wardrobe or getting certain things you desire, do away with them. Get only what you need and not what you want!

4.  Balance Your Social Life

It is good to keep in touch and maintain contact with other people. It is equally good to meet new people and identify with one social community or the other.

However, when you fail to strike a balance, you end up complicating life rather than simplifying it. You should deliberately discipline yourself so as not to spend too much time on social media because these things bring about unhealthy competition.

Your mindset would be redirected towards impressing people instead of improving your life by making do with the resources at your disposal. This can instigate excessive spending and shoot up your budget.

Lots of people spend more time on social media or socially interacting with others than they actually spend on themselves, family, work or career. This is a very costly mistake. Having a social life is a very good thing but simplifying your life means learning to drastically reduce the pressures that emanate from the social aspects of life.

There are so much pressure and demand on social media. It can end up distracting you from concentrating on the things that actually matter. If you are not careful, an excessively high social life may switch your focus from what is supposed to be the most important thing to you to the least important or trivial things.

You can simplify your life by spending very little time on social media and social functions and focusing on the things that really matter.

5.  Set Priorities

Whether or not you plan on simplifying your life, it is important to set priorities. Setting your priorities is outlining the things that are of importance to you. In economical terms, setting priorities can be described as ‘scale of preference’. This means arranging your wants and desires in order of priority or importance.

Like I mentioned earlier, there are needs and there are wants. Priorities help you set apart the things you need from the things you want. Setting priorities also gives you a sense of direction. This means that it tells you exactly what step you should be taking to get that particular thing that you need.

Setting priorities also helps to eradicate every form of lapses and assist you in ensuring that no stone is left untouched. Your family, loved ones, career and all the important aspects of your life would be properly nurtured and maintained. You live a happier and less worrisome life and take a giant step in simplifying your life when you set priorities.

6.  Have A Daily Schedule

This includes establishing healthy and valuable routines that will make your day successful and productive. You would have a huge control of your time and that will grandly contribute to simplifying your life.

When you have a schedule for each day your lifestyle becomes patterned to the thing you do consistently like waking up every morning by 5 am or picking up your child from school by 5 pm. You will discover that you do not struggle to get things done when you have a schedule for each day.

Things that seemed like so much work become very easy to pull off. Making a schedule also helps instill confidence and discipline which is very important in improving your performance. To effectively learn how to simplify your life and home, you just have to prepare a schedule for each day. It works!

And to help you do that, I will be launching a self-development guide next month. The product promises to assist you in your journey to self-development. I am really hoping that it helps every one of you grow and become better persons!

7.  Learn To Say No

Saying “no” may seem like a very difficult activity but it is very essential in simplifying life. By saying “yes” too often, we channel our time to things that may not yield positive results which would not be beneficial to us.

You have to know when to say yes and when to say no. If you are not capable of carrying out or meeting up with a demand from someone, you should not be scared to say a polite no.

Most times, you are afraid to say no to people so as not to hurt their feeling or disappoint them without realizing the damage you may be causing to yourself. Always wanting to meet up to other people expectation is a problem because you cannot always please everyone.

Saying no is not a crime if you learn how to say it the right way. You should be able to tell the most important things from the trivial or least important things so that you do not end up saying yes to someone or something that is not as important and urgent as a task that needs to be handled immediately.

Saying no also helps you to earn a very high level of respect from those around you because they know that you carry out only favors that are pressing and important. Starting to say no can be a little difficult, so, it is important to learn how to say no politely or indirectly without actually hurting or disappointing the person asking for a favor.

For example instead of an outright no you can use “let me get back to you” or “I would love to do it but…” It is easier to start with these forms of no until you have learned how to say no.

When you have mastered the art of saying no to some request the people around you will then be aware of the kind of favors they ask of you. They start to ask only the most important things and do away with or handle the least important things. You are simplifying life when you say no to things that take up much of your time.

8.  Practice Yoga Or Observe Quiet Time

Observing silence or yoga is very helpful in cleansing your mind because you do not make any verbal comment and you are void all forms of interactions and distractions. This is a time where you reflect, think and connect with yourself. It can also be a time for self-evaluation and how much you have been able to accomplish and how much more you have left to do.

Meditating or practicing yoga can also help you live a healthy life because you stay connected with your mind regularly. For that time, you take yourself out of the natural world to a supernatural world that is void of bother or decrease to satisfy certain desires.

During the process of quiet in your mind, you can hear your soul speak and can fully concentrate and declutter your mind. It is also a form of training and discipline that one can receive because it takes so much effort to shut out distractions.

Yoga is good for simplifying life because you feel renewed, stay connected and not lose track of your goals and desires each time you practice it. You find yourself achieving more and living a simplified life when you stay connected.

9.  Set Short-Term Goals

Short-term goals are more realistic and achievable goals. When we create a short-term goal, it offers us a step-by-step guide to achieving success. This is very important especially in simplifying your life. When you set goals, you have a laid-down plan in achieving your expectations and your life has a sense of direction.

Failing to set goals especially short-term goals is failing to plan and failing to plan is more or less planning to fail. Short-term goals usually have a very short time-frame because the idea is to meet up with a particular target.

In setting short-term goals, it should not only contain what you want to achieve, how you want to achieve it, why you want to achieve it and when you want to achieve it. You can also go a step further by outlining the things you plan to do after achieving it.

It is important to have passion when you’re setting a goal because it is the passion for what you want to achieve that follows your performance in making it possible to succeed or attain success. It is also very important to set realistic goals. This means setting goals that are achievable at a particular time.

For example, if you plan on getting a car you should be able to plan within the ambit of the resources at your disposal. Short-term goals help to improve your health, this means less worrying and concern over the things you ought to be working on. It improves your mind, home, and career.

The advantage of setting short-term goals is that you know exactly where you are headed and all the things that need to be done to achieve your desires. It erases every form of doubt and confusion which may arise as a result of lack of clarity of purpose.

Short-term goals also help you keep tabs on your successes and how much you have been able to accomplish to bring to reality your long-term goals and this goes a long way in simplifying life.

10.  Declutter Your Home

Big homes require much more spending. This is one reason why it is essential to declutter your home. Similarly, your environments to a large extent have so much impact on your lifestyle. A clean and well-organized home with so much space leaves you feeling much more productive.

De-cluttering your home may come off as a very big task to handle especially if you have a very cluttered house. It is, however, not a one-day job. You can start one day at a time and probably dedicate one day to clear out a particular space or room.

You can start with your sitting room to the bedrooms and even the kitchen. When you have finally rid your home of the things you do not need, you can decide to recycle or do a garage sale; this can earn you a few bucks for things that you felt were not so important.
