10 Things To Do At The Beginning Of The Month

Sharing is caring!

things you need to do

Hey guys! First off, a happy new month! I’m excited about all this month has in store; the challenges, good memories and lessons. I pray that we all continually grow and wrap ourselves with the foil of positivity!

Time stamps uncontrollably, it’s a new month, new blinds have been peeled open and it’s tricky how time ticks so fast while we struggle to get around chaos forgetting to care and remind ourselves of our value. I know it’s not always easy drawing a thin line between living and surviving, but I want you to know that you are doing an excellent job.

Here is a firm reminder through this journey of resilience before I dive into the monthly hacks and directives.

You are doing just great, the journey may be locked with obstacles and challenges, but I want you to know that life is in phases, all you have to do is take one step at a time. So, just for the meantime spill open and take advantage of the moment, knowing that you are divine magic.

Detach yourself from self-doubt, nourish the fire burning inside and recognize the light in your soul. You got everything inside of you to shine because you are not ordinary but extraordinary.

Don’t let survival suppress you as life happens; it can be overwhelming to navigate through the duality of surviving and living, it may be so hard to jump over the hurdles but I want you to know you are doing a good job and in no time every fragment of change will fit into the bigger picture of growth. And to every illuminator here, thanks for hanging pieces of your magic on this little corner of the global village.

Now, for today’s prescription of growth! If you take your time to go through many of my posts, you would notice that I write a lot on personal development and growth. Why? Let’s just say, I have grown to know the value of self-learning certain habits that fuel my drive to grow.

things you should do

Because habits are keys to living a good and fulfilled life and if you must succeed, or live a happy life, then you need to rid yourself of some habits while wearing others as cloaks!

I must confess, I used to be as clumsy as clumsy could be. My life was a canvas of scattered colors of activities and not until recently, did I realize the best way to harmonize. Organization is a behavioral fertilizer to the blissfulness of our existence as humans, just as living a scattered, unintentional and purposeless life, is a fast way of dwindling the essence of our lives.

How did I escape the trap of disorganization? How did I come out of that cage of living a life not based on purpose? The secret is planning. I realized that all I needed was planning. I only needed to entrench my days, weeks and months in schedules and plans and in no time, I’d see myself enjoying the positive fruition of organization.

So, I started doing certain things at the beginning of every month. These things were -and still are- like routines for me. They prepared me for the month and propel me properly into the hours, days and weeks. They tune the inner me into a psychological phase of accepting responsibilities.

I will be sharing 10 of these tips with you today. I know this sounds a lot but you don’t have to feel overwhelmed by these steps. At the end of this article, I have attached a 30 day challenge you can embark on that is guaranteed to massively improve the quality of your life.

Hold on tight and let’s get to work! These are some of the things you can do at the beginning of the month to prepare you for the days ahead:

things you should do

1.  Reflect On The Previous Month

The past is gone, but we cannot ignore its relevance. At the beginning of every month, it is essential to look back and have a reflective thinking on what the past month was like, look for areas where you didn’t meet up with your goals, what worked and what didn’t work and deliberately decide to want a change in the new month and trust me, you’d have a change.

Like I said, from my story, it was obvious that something was wrong and I needed to figure it out. Thing is, I was blind to those downgrading factors till I had deep, reflective thinking for the next month and that was the great change!

So, if you are in the same situation right now, I’d advise that you initiate a process of change by deliberately reflecting on your last few months, outlining your mistakes and identifying areas where you can do better.

Our self-improvement journal which will be launched by fall is packed with several self-uplifting and reflective prompts that will expand your level of growth and accountability to radically improve and transform your life and I trust that you have signed up to the waitlist already and will not want to miss out of having such important product at your service.

2.  Set One Goal For The Month

It is good to be ambitious and to want to achieve a whole lot within the month but as the popular aphorism goes “Too many cooks, spoil the broth”.

For a better and more effective approach to being organized and successful in the month, you should consider taking on a single plan aggressively and pursuing it hard! Usually, these goals are not to be too simple. Be careful to select meaningful, game-changing goals.

Remember, achieving 12 meaningful and impactful goals for the year, is way better than just listing a hundred plans without anyone of them seeing the light of the day! You can simply review your quarterly goals and devise several means of achieving all these goals that are yet to be born.

Now, am I saying you should only have 12 goals in a year? Nope. You can have more than 12 goals for the year but ensure that for each year, a goal is primarily set to be the major goal. In other words, if eventually, you don’t get to achieve these goals, one goal must at least be achieved and that’s the major goal! I have written an extensive blog post on how to set goals and the types of goals you need to set.

P.s You can follow me on Instagram as an accountability buddy to your monthly, weekly or daily goals as we take charge of survival and being at the top with our intentions and purpose.

3.  Layout Some Plans And Notes

Every institution supports planning. Planning is an essential principle for growth because your life and destiny are in your hands and until you do something about making them work, they’d remain dormant.

You could get a planner, a journal and write some notes on what you intend achieving for the month, an outlet for venting and releasing your thoughts, addressing your fears, letters to self, having a soulful check. In the words of Napoleon Hill, to succeed in life, one needs to plan his/her work and work his/her plan.

Planning your work involves making notes on what you intend achieving for the month, and also outlining the best ways to achieve the goals.

4.  Deep Clean And Declutter

At some point in my blogging journey, I didn’t have the time for personal life. I did not even have the time to clean my house. I was struggling to strike a balance. It was a tough one and I figured it was affecting my daily realities for the rest of the month.

What did I do to effect a change? I cultivated the habit of opening a new month with deep cleaning and decluttering exercises. I would wash my clothes, do the dishes, scrub the floors and do many other things pertaining to cleaning.

So, what change did this effect? My life took a newer turn as the exercises prepared me mentally and psychologically for the month. I realized that the change I needed was basically hinged on my mental stability and since I fixed that, grand changes began to manifest.

5.  Pick Out A Book For The Month

Books are life’s gift to humans. A good book can change one’s life in days. If you’re like me and you love to read, then you could do more books but if you’re not, you could limit yourself to just one book.

Reading is very important for personal development and growth. It helps you gain from the knowledge of other people, who might have worked in the very same shoes you’re currently in.

For starters, you could pick up a small and interesting book and deliberately decide to read it for the whole month. Trust me, after completing the book, you’d experience a major mental shift that will allow for growth. There are many beautiful books out there, how about you go to the nearest bookstore around you and start with one?

I have compiled a comprehensive list of the best personal development books you can read to radically change and improve your life. Like I said earlier, you necessarily don’t have to go big, you can start with something small and then with time you proceed to bigger ones.

6.  Plan A Budget

A budget is the financial outline of one’s expenses over a particular period. A budget is your financial map. It tells you what to spend your money on and what not to spend your money on.

Planning a budget is essential for success in life. As humans, it is almost normal to want to spend beyond what our pockets can allow but with the existence of a budget, one is confined to their pre-planned expenses.

A budget instills the value of discipline in you and if honestly followed, your life would experience a major change. A budget is simply telling your money where to go. It’s seriously that simple.

There are many ways to budget your income and you could choose the one that’s most suitable for you. However, I’d talk about the 50/30/20 formula. You can read all about that in this blog post.

The rule states that 50% of your income should go to important things. Some of the things that should go into the 50% category are rent or mortgage, transportation, including car payments and has, utilities, groceries, insurance, childcare, basic clothing. For the 30%, you’re to include all you want but could certainly live without. The 20% is for the future. You could save it, or invest with it.

7.  Ask Yourself Important Questions

Also, to start the month you can ask yourself some deep questions about what you would be expecting from yourself through the course of the month. Where you are currently, what you have to do to get to your end goal, how you are coping with survival, and what you would love to achieve. It’s a process of having deep thoughts about the prospects of the month by asking yourself certain questions.

The essence of asking these questions is to help you have full knowledge of what you would like to achieve by the end of the month and this gives you a unique mental strength to pursue your goals easily.

  • What are some things I am hoping to achieve?
  • What would make this month fun?
  • What events am I looking up to?
  • Where do I want to be at the end of the month?
  • How am I going with my aspirational list for the year?
  • How am I doing with the hassle of survival?
  • What phase am I currently in and what’s this phase teaching me?
  • How do I grow more and get in tune with myself?
  • How do I nourish myself better?
  • How do I dwell with my worth?

Although, these are subjective questions but of course you can formulate yours and use them to evaluate yourself in preparation for the month. The self-improvement journal contains about 200 deep unique questions to help you properly evaluate and analyze your life.

8.  Clean Out Your Purse

If you are a lover of purses like me, then you know that it is important for you to clean your purses. Most times I find out the most random things in my purse and I get completely shocked. For me, I put a lot of things in my purse. I check for receipts, lipsticks and basically, random things that normally shouldn’t be in a purse.

I think it’s ok to adopt this at the very beginning of the month so you have your mind set on the fact that you are going to the new month with the newer focus and direction.

9.  Schedule Appointments

As the month journeys by, you are definitely going to meet with a lot of persons and you might need to have to schedule meetings with these persons so you do not get clustered with too many meetings.

Now, these meetings can be settled at the beginning of the month and you can schedule appointments. Scheduling meetings help you to plan your days as you go through the month.

10.  Plan Meetings With Family And Friends

Your family should be your primary focus because they will always be there for you when you need them. It is normal to have times when you get too busy to even pay attention to the friends and loved ones around you and you realize that your relationship with people gets clumsy.

To avoid that, you can start scheduling meetings and hangouts with your friends, family and loved ones. If you have that at the back of your mind from the very beginning of the month you would be able to go through the month with peace.

So, there you have it! Amazing things you could do at the end of the month to help you grow and improve during the month. Is there anything you do at the beginning of the month that you can’t find on this list? Feel free to leave a comment and let me know your thoughts!

For you:

It is that time of the year again where we cross our Ts and dot our Is in preparation for the New month. You can decide to be content with the status Quo in 2020 or take the bull by the horn and ensure that you deliberately change your life. I do hope that the year would be amazing and kind to you but don’t forget that you have a role to play in orchestrating your life.

Ensure that you go through all my posts in previous months and learn a thing or two. Again, I do hope to hear good and positive feedbacks from you. Love and Light.

  • Afam,
Planning is such a necessary component of life. My father, a man of few words, instilled in me the concept, “Failing to plan IS planning to fail”.
Your primer and advocacy for this life skill is refreshing to see. I am encouraged for our collective future.
I landed on your site quite by accident and the Universe again reminded me that there are really no ‘accidents’ regarding people and content.
    Well done!

  • Brilliant post. I am a retired lady who has got stuck in a rut. All the things on the list really helpful and I’m going out to buy “monthly list” notebook and get started on all your ideas. Well done for motivating me .Thankyou x

  • Jose..4am 2nd Oct 2020
I am a retired lady from employment. Not from life’s busy active days though. I do find the days dwindling too fast with no definite direction though. I like your suggestion of one definite goal for each month and clean out the clutter at the beginning of each month. Let’s go and get this new month under way. Happy October,!

  • I love this list, I do many of them, but I definitely don’t do a lot of them! Maybe those should be my goal for next month! Thank you for this list!
