fun things to do with friends at home

Saturdays are usually slow for me – in the wash of the new light, there is this joy that peeks through the calmness; few more hours to coil under the sheets, pour out my thoughts on paper, prioritize myself, break free from the chaos and scheduled routines.

My Saturdays weren’t always like this, I struggled for so long on what to do on Saturdays, I woke up as if I was on a marathon to complete all the desired chores, work, and activities which resulted in creating an extension of stress constantly.

There were Saturdays that were really crazy with no difference between the weekend and the weekdays and I realized that this had to be solved. I couldn’t continue being on a marathon of erratic stress, constantly solving the problem on what to do on Saturdays or what refilling activities to develop, so, I learned to inculcate certain routines and activities into my weekends which have been giving me a swell time.

Taking a break and unplugging from the chaos and scheduled routines we all get entangled within the week is a necessity, oftentimes, our weekends are synonymous with running errands, shopping, cleaning and so on that we fail to indulge in some satisfying, calming and productive activities.

I for one to love sleep-in on Saturdays and this has tremendously helped me in resetting and revamping for the week. To you, Saturdays might just be a time to relax and share precious memories from the past days of the week with loved ones. To another person, Saturdays might be another time to plan for the week ahead.

Whichever way anyone chooses to spend their weekend, one thing would always remain common and that is the fact that weekends are special and having a happy Saturday is key to staying your weekend on a beautiful note.

Now, you might be wondering what special activities you haven’t adopted or read to have a satisfying weekend or as a guide on what to do on Saturday. Well, all you have to do is to follow me on this smooth ride as I share some important activities and things to do on Saturday to create a refreshing and satisfying week.

What to do on Saturday night at home

1.  Check-In With Yourself

Weekends are the perfect time to slow down and map out time for yourself to know how are you coping with everything that has been happening. We handle so much mentally and physically that it can be detrimental if we do not properly look out for ourselves.

Checking in with myself, my heart, my mind, soul, stress level, and anxieties give me total control of my stability and I encourage every one of you to adopt this habit.

Saturdays are the perfect time to check-in because you are free from the rush of meeting up with work and your causal routines. You should take time to breathe, pause, pace yourself and measure how well you are blooming into your best self through the weekend.

You can also check-in with yourself on Sundays; I have written a detailed post on some productive things you can do on Sundays to keep your weekends refreshing.

I cannot begin to outline the importance of checking in with yourself weekly and asking some deep questions on your overhaul wellbeing. Questions like how are you doing? How was the previous week? What worked and didn’t work? What do you need to release? What do you need to do more? How are you finding happiness? What are you putting down? What feels challenging and how can you work your way around that? What are you overcoming? And so on.

These powerful check-in questions will utterly change and improve the quality of your life; the ability to ask yourself the right questions will give you the answers and directive that you need to move forward in life.

If you have no idea how to effectively check in with yourself, the questions to ask yourself or the activities to indulge in our guided journal, The Life Compass, will enable you to know what you need – mentally, physically and emotionally.

The journal provides you with a truckload of weekly and monthly check-in questions that will enable you to improve the quality of your life, make you wiser and more informed on the next step to take.

So this weekend, I want you to sit in silence with your Life Compass, encourage yourself, genuinely care for yourself, and ask yourself how are you doing? Listen without judgment, remind yourself of your purpose, embrace yourself, make the necessary changes you need and do the self-work to make yourself proud.

If you follow me on Instagram you can catch up with the weekly prompts and self-elevation/check-in exercises that I share to enable you check-in with yourself weekly, so you do not wreck yourself.

2.  Allow Slow Mornings

weekend routine

Phew! This is a loud one, I know you hear a lot of people say do not alter your routines by sleeping-in on Saturdays. Well, you are permitted to sleep in, take a break from the continual stress cycle and slow down! Due to high-stress levels, I have broken down countlessly and trust me this isn’t something I’ll want you to experience especially as an entrepreneur.

Take your mornings slowly as they unveil and if there isn’t enough time to carry out all your productive activities take a chill pill and roll them over to Sunday. (Yes! I said that!) This is a piece of realistic advice that I have come to learn in a hard way.

Now, let me say this sleeping-in isn’t something you have to do every Saturday if you feel that it is going to end up interfering with your sleep schedule during the rest of the week and leave you exhausted.

You can schedule sleeping-in on your wellness calendar for a particular day as a self-care activity that will relieve you of stress and allow you to prioritize yourself better or you can schedule some nothing time to enable you to recharge and hit the reset button.

3.  Unplug

Unplugging from normalized stress, routines, and chaos will enable you to live a more intentional life, appreciate the present, increase self-discovery, meditation and self-reflection which are all activities that can change your life.

On Saturdays, learn to unplug from your work, normalized routines and technological devices which we are all accustomed to; we are so engrossed with several technological devices that we stay glued to checking our phones, social media, status, pictures and so. Unplugging from these can help improve the quality of your life and enable you to properly reset and recharge.

4.  Get Yourself Ready For The Day

This doesn’t connote the weekday routine to get you started for work. Remember it’s the weekend so whatever you do should not stress you out more than you’ve been during the early part of the week. Getting yourself ready for the day means making plans to enjoy the list of things planned out to do.

If you want to start your Saturday with your chores, you should be able to do that on time so that you do not spill into the time you dedicated to other things. If it’s going to be an outing Saturday, you should start picking out what you would want to wear on Friday evening to boost your level of organization.

If you’re having a restful Saturday, slow down your activities for the day and make sure each of your activities helps you get ready for what you plan to do. Lack of readiness will leave you wondering what to do on a Saturday.

5.  Outline Your Plans For The Day

There is no better feeling than having a plan or listing what you want to do on a Saturday. It makes you feel like you’re in control.

Having a plan is better when you write it down. This way, you get to make a list of all the things you want to do. Sometimes, when you think about an activity or something you plan to do, you forget it if you fail to record it somewhere or write it down.

The best way to effectively manage your time is to have a physical list. You should even write out even things you think are really not necessary like; cutting your nails, reviewing your journal, drinking water, calling a friend, checking-in on yourself, changing your bedsheets or checking your mailbox.

Once you have made a physical list, you should follow every detail on the list and at the end of your day, you’ll find out that you achieved every plan you wrote on the list.

My most recommended weekly planner is the Ultimate Goal Chaser I have been using this weekly planner for a long time and I must say that I have been able to drastically organize my weekly activities as well as my weekly goals and I can guarantee that this planner will help you get your week on the right track of productivity and success.

It is important to know that physical lists can also contain lists of information like; your fears, your weaknesses and strengths and how you hope to build on your strengths and water down your weaknesses. It is most advisable to have a physical list of your expectations before the weekend runs out.

6.  Write A Feasible To-Do List

You may be wondering what the difference is between a physical list and a to-do list. As I explained earlier, a physical list is not restricted to daily activities. It may be a list of what you hope to achieve before the weekend runs out. Whereas, the to-do list is mostly daily applicable.

In many of my posts, I make sure to always talk about the importance of having a to-do list. A to-do list helps you to tailor your activities for the day. I know how much it sucks having to live a day, talk more of a full weekend, with no plans at all.

Having a to-do list helps you stay organized and coherent. I do this a lot. I have a to-do list journal where I list out my activities for the day. It helps me spend the day with purpose.

7.  Declutter And Clean

One of the best ways to enjoy your weekend is to ensure that you declutter and take care of your necessary chore. You can start the day by getting the most difficult tasks out of the way. By the time you’re done, getting the rest tasks done would be very easy.

Also, your Saturdays should not just be for cleanup. Monday to Friday was already exhausting enough so you shouldn’t add Saturdays to your list of stressful days. Once you get off the bed and you have done your routines, start your cleanup. Once you start early, you’ll finish early and this would help launch you faster to your fun activities.

8.  Follow Some Of Your Weekday Morning Routines

Like I stated earlier I love to sleep in on Saturdays and this isn’t part of my weekday routines, however, there are certain routines that I include into my weekends no matter what! For example, I start every day with a cup of water. It’s a normal part of my weekday activities.

When I want to start my weekends, I also ensure that I start with a cup of water too. Doing this gives me the energy to kick start the day, just like every other day and it kills the push to start wondering what to do on a Saturday.

As a start to your weekend routine, I’ll advise that you start with that morning routine you do every weekday as a norm that keeps you energized. It helps to ingrain in your subconscious that it is time to get up and get something to do.

9.  Relax And Watch A Movie On Netflix

happy Saturday

Relaxing after a long stressful week is highly recommended as it reduces your stress levels and put you in a more refilling state. There are certain activities and ways you can relax. One of the best ways to kick start the weekend relaxing is watching a really interesting movie.

Some people find it exhausting to read books but a lot of people find it easier and more relaxing to watch movies. So if you’re a movie person, you could try seeing a movie instead. Pick a movie that suits your taste and get your popcorn ready for movie time in the comfort of your home.

You can also relax by playing games, this is a very fun and involving activity. This is because you exercise the brain as well as keep yourself occupied and happy. Playing online games is one of the fun things to do with friends on a Saturday night, at home.

10.  Have Me Time

I know that starting your morning slowly, unplugging, planning for the day and week ahead can charge you up but there is something about outlying certain times to take care of yourself and look after yourself. Even if you have to sit still and be bored. Having your alone time enables you to prepare yourself to be refilled for the week ahead.

So, there you have it! If you are still bothered about what you can do on a Saturday with friends or what to do on weekends alone, those are few suggestions on exciting things you can do to have a more satisfying weekend.
