The common thoughts that plague the mind of anyone who has a massive challenge before them are usually “I am so confused.” “What do I do next?” “Why isn’t it working?”
Every day thousands of people experience similar thoughts and emotions. Like you, sometimes everything seems perfect and smooth, and then the next minute, it’s almost like everything turns upside down.
Life is full of highs and lows, and everyone will always have problems to handle. Benjamin Franklin, a famous scientist and inventor, once said, “Energy and persistence conquer all things.”
From the quote, it is evident that Benjamin Franklin was a man who spent his life facing challenges. But, like every other successful person in history, he learned how to overcome challenges, and he succeeded.
Every day we encounter problems; some are easy, and others seem almost impossible to handle. So what do you do when you encounter difficulty?
Do you whine and complain, or do you do something about it? Our attitude and response to the existence of a problem matter a lot.
If we must grow consistently in the direction of our dreams, then we must have what it takes to bring down the mountains that obstruct the paths to success.
However, the existence of challenges should not become a reason for us to feel sad. Instead, it should be the opposite. My experiences with challenges have taught me that challenges can become tools for achieving the impossible when handled correctly!
And I didn’t learn it the easy way! Instead, I learned how to overcome challenges by facing them heads on! And if you must learn how to overcome obstacles in life, you will have to do the same.
10 Tips To Overcome Challenges

Overcoming challenges will not be an easy feat, and I understand that. Hence, I have compiled ten tips that I apply whenever I come across an overwhelming challenge, and trust me, and it works every time! I trust that you will find these tips as helpful as I did.
1. Improve Your Knowledge Base

One of the first things you must pay attention to in overcoming personal challenges is what you know. Yes! Most times, the primary reason why we find it so difficult to tackle specific challenges is that we do not know enough.
And then we keep trying the same thing, hoping that something different happens.
So this is a call to review what you know about that problem. Let’s assume, for example, that the challenge you want to deal with involves time management.
How many books have you read about time management? Have you tried listening to a podcast about it or seeking help or advice from an expert? If not, that should be the next thing on your to-do list!
It becomes easier to fix annoying problems when you stock up on your knowledge base. Today, I want you to make a conscious decision to learn as much as possible about any challenge you come across.
The internet has already made everything easier. Scattered across the net are tons of information that you might find helpful. Splurge on YouTube videos or articles like this one and increase what you know.
Then, the next time you come up against a challenge, it will be much easier to bring it down because of what you know.
Knowledge is power, and if you know how to take advantage of it, your challenges will become a thing of the past! So, if you want to know how to handle life challenges, you will have to take learning a lot more seriously.
2. Make A Plan

Now that you have increased your knowledge base, it’s time to take the next step; make a plan. Often, a plan is what you need to get the job done.
Besides helping you prevent wastage and channel your resources wisely, making a plan will also help you consider a lot from your perspective.
A plan will reduce the chances of you being caught unawares and unprepared. So what are the plans you have for taking down that challenge? Your answer will indicate how prepared you are to tackle that challenge.
As much as you don’t know what the future looks like, you can always prepare in advance. You can even attempt to study consistent occurrences in your life and their outcomes and then create plans to handle them.
For example, if your job revolves around a specific niche or field, you can study the everyday challenges of that niche and plan in anticipation for them.
Like it or not, you are bound to waste more time and energy against a challenge when you don’t have a plan. Therefore, planning is a habit you will need to become part of your life in learning how to overcome challenges.
3. Ask For Help And Help Others

Sometimes you might not have what it takes or the key to learning how to overcome difficulties. A good option is to reach out to the people around you and call for help!
Embedded within people are some of the solutions to the challenges we face. However, if we do not attempt to seek their help or counsel, we might never get past those challenges.
I understand that it could be challenging to request assistance sometimes, especially if you are someone who doesn’t like being a bother. However, you don’t have to feel ashamed for seeking help.
If you seem to be struggling to handle a problem, seek help. A friend, family member, or even a stranger might be able to offer you something valuable to help you overcome that challenge.
You can also learn how to overcome challenges or difficulties in life by offering assistance to others. I know it doesn’t sound like a piece of conventional advice, but it works.
I had a friend working on a vast project, and he needed as many people as he could find to help test run and market his product. I volunteered and offered my help. The project was successful.
A few months later, I found myself in a similar situation. It was easier for me to tackle the challenge because of the experience I gained from helping my friend.
Apart from experience, he offered his support and assistance too! In the end, it was a win-win for both of us. No man is indeed an island. If you need help, call for it!
4. Switch Perspectives

Photographers use different lenses depending on the niche and the pictures they want. For example, a photographer wouldn’t use a fisheye lens to shoot a portrait or cover an event. And even if they would do so, it would be sporadic cases.
The lenses have different effects on pictures and provide the photographer with different perspectives. The same can be said about learning how to face challenges.
There’s something about having the right point of view for the right problem. Your standpoint towards a situation is a significant factor that needs attention too.
We tend to think in a straightforward, one-way direction regarding our concerns. Is it wrong? Not exactly. But to deal with specific issues, you must learn to think outside the box.
Like it or not, you will never understand the concept of particular difficulties until you know to see from a different lens. That problem that has robbed you of sleep might still be there because you have not approached it from a completely different angle.
There is power in considering other perspectives at work in the background. It gives you a striking edge and allows you to make more innovative moves and decisions.
To effectively comprehend how to overcome challenges, you must make a mental note to adjust your stances in certain situations. Please do not make it a habit to remain stagnant in your problem-solving approach.
5. Learn From The Experience Of Others And Embrace Yours

Learning always pays, especially when you know how to overcome challenges from the experiences of others. Since everyone faces problems, there are higher tendencies that yours aren’t new.
Someone else somewhere has experienced either a similar or an exact situation. The experience of others can be a goldmine of knowledge and a hub where you can find the answers you need. Some of these experiences have been documented in books.
Reading such can provide you with the necessary insights to tackle your challenges. And if books aren’t your thing, try using the internet to your advantage.
You can read posts on social media or learn from people who share their experiences in handling challenges on blogs. You can even pick up a thing or two from interviews on YouTube.
Talking to someone older or an expert in the field is also helpful. The most important thing is that you have a fact or lesson that you can equip yourself with to take down that challenge.
I have learned some of the most important lessons of my life by listening and learning from the experience of others.
The thing about learning from others is that, it allows you to see your challenges from an entirely different angle.
So do not hesitate to learn from the experiences of others. Sometimes to deal with a challenge, you got to swallow your pride and speak to someone who can give you helpful advice.
It might even be from an expert with years of experience under their belt! Be careful to shuffle what you hear, though, and be quick to implement wise counsel.
6. Maintain A Positive Attitude

A positive approach to life is a skill that will help you anywhere, even in the face of challenges. Some challenges can be tough to crack outside of the excitement and motivational talks.
Think of the most challenging task you have on your to-do list. Yes, that’s the one I am talking about; that annoying problem doesn’t seem to budge no matter what you do.
Sometimes, handling specific problems can be so exhausting that you feel frustrated, angry, and depressed. Then you become more of a complainer with a sour attitude who goes around being sad. Relatable?
But the fact that you are struggling with these negative emotions isn’t the end of the world. Your problems aren’t the end of the world for you. And don’t be ashamed for feeling that way.
It’s because you are human, and sometimes it is completely fine to get weighed down. But is giving up and keeping a negative attitude the next thing to do?
In learning how to overcome challenges, it is also vital that you do not allow your challenges to get the best of you or affect how you see life. Your problems should not be permitted to control how you feel.
If you give them that power, you might be sad forever because challenges do not stop coming until you are no longer alive. It’s a hard fact, but you have to live with it.
A crucial step in learning how to overcome obstacles to success is to build a culture of maintaining a positive attitude even in the face of mountain-size problems!
In your quest for growth, you will encounter some challenges that will make you question your existence. But you have to accept that challenges are a path of living and growing.
7. Be Dynamic, And Embrace Change

Being open to change is also related to switching perspectives and learning from others. Sometimes it is challenging to tackle terrible situations because of how rigid we are.
As you grow, always keep in mind that “life happens, and sometimes there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.” And when I speak of change in this context, I refer to the positive and negative occurrences that we experience daily.
I get that life can be so annoying. You wake up on a beautiful Monday to the news that all your plans for the last few months failed for unbelievable reasons, and you can’t do anything about it. That’s how crazy change can be.
But you know the beautiful thing about change? It can be used as an advantage. Sometimes, change can be a catalyst for speedy growth.
If you are going to become someone who knows how to overcome challenges in life, then this is a fact that you must accept!
For example, in 2020, the world experienced the craziest change in the history of changes; the arrival of disease that affected thousands.
Unfortunately, the change brought a lot of side effects, both positive and negative. Companies crashed, folks died, and resources were lost.
But underneath all the terrible things came a lot of good. During the lockdown, people were able to achieve great things too.
Some realized their purpose; others started a new job or discovered something that changed their lives forever! People even found love and got married during the lockdown!
Today, I advise that you step back a little and take a better look at the most significant challenges. Somewhere, underneath all the chaos, can be something good that you can use to turn your life around.
8. Don’t Give Up

Most times, when life gives you a heavy punch, it becomes very tempting to want to throw in the towel and call it a day. But you don’t have to. It’s okay to want to give up, but will that change the situation of things or even make it worse?.
I will tell you the truth; giving up is an option, a button that you can choose to press whenever you get tired. However, rather than give up, here is something else that you can try; REST!
I have hung between giving up and finding the slightest flicker of hope and desire to keep trying several times. And most times, it’s because I try to remind myself of why I started in the first place.
Doing that gives me a little strength to keep moving forward. Also, when I get tired and feel like giving up, I take a break and get as much rest as possible. Sometimes, what we need when we want to give up is rest!
That’s our mind’s way of breaking down under all the weight and responsibility. And it works. You are permitted to cry or rant, get sad, angry, or depressed during that period.
So as long as it gives you room to vent out the pain and frustration, please do it. You will be much better when you get back on your feet.
After taking time to rest physically, mentally, and emotionally, you can refuel and get your head back in the game. Giving won’t change anything, but for someone like you who is learning how to overcome challenges, it is a pill that you do not have to take.
9. Work Smart

It is one thing to work hard, and it is another to work smart. Please don’t get it mixed up; they are not the same thing. Smart work is hard work, but hard work isn’t always smart. Forgive the pun, but I hope you get the point.
Smart work involves planning, learning how to overcome challenges like you are already doing, taking advantage of opportunities, taking risks, and being consistent.
Sometimes, working hard doesn’t cover all these, partly because our definition of hard work is simply putting efforts in a narrow-minded direction—limiting and not result-yielding.
The truth is, there are a million ways to get the same thing done. And there is always a better and easier way. After defining your goal, draw out an outline for its achievement.
Brilliant work is finding innovative and more creative methods for achieving your objectives. If you want to see changes as you learn how to overcome challenges to your goal achievements, working smart must become the new normal for you!
10. Observe And Act

A good mentor once told me, “Be slow to make a decision, but execute with lightning speed when you do.” Now, I want to draw your attention to the first six words of that advice.
I have found out over the years that, one of the many reasons why many people fail is because they fail to keep their eyes open and carefully plan their moves.
Yes. Most people are impatient and would instead jump into something rather than study the circumstances before deciding. Challenges come in different sizes and different situations.
If you know how to overcome challenges when they arrive, then you must have the eyes and instinct of an Eagle.
Eagles do not hunt foolishly. They track their prey and carefully bid their time before they strike.
Like it or not, sometimes your success will be determined by how fast you can recognize and act on an opportunity!
Refuse to jump in blindly without looking around. In facing challenges, leaping before you look will get you into trouble.
My advice? Be like the Eagle. Study your challenges like a fighter would study his opponent. Look for strengths and weaknesses, anything that can give you a better fighting chance and execute brutally.
