“A habit cannot be tossed out the window; it must be coaxed down the stairs a step at a time.” -Mark Twain
Like everything else, the complexity of time is fragmented. It is fragmented into years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, and seconds. It is important that every moment we spend is tailored towards the improvement of our lives.
It is almost impossible to be 100% conscious of your actions every day, but with the habits we cultivate, we can control and tailor them to improve our lives daily.
Ever wondered what daily habits to improve one’s life would be? Well, of course, everybody wants to live a full and healthy life but the way the world works, it is hard.
We are usually caught up in one problem or the other, distractions abound which can be a blow to your physical and mental health but you can and will develop a healthy coping mechanism if you practice certain habits consistently and with as much discipline as possible.
It is usually hard to pick up many habits so I recommend you start with one, focus on getting used to it then slowly add others. Inculcating these habits into your lifestyle will bring about a very drastic improvement.

Yes! You want to improve your life, but just like everything else, that would take a lot of effort, and you must be willing to put in the work you should. You need to be aware of the daily habits necessary to improve your life.
And we have simplified that by explaining six of those habits here. These could also pass for good habits for living a better life or personal habits that are good for your growth.
1. Establish A Morning Routine

How you begin your day has a major impact on how your entire day is going to turn out. This is why if you do not already have one, to improve your daily life, you must work towards establishing a successful morning routine and be consistent with it.
Establishing a successful and productive morning routine helps you start your day on a proactive note. It’s high time you stopped the habit of continuously snoozing your alarm, grudgingly waking up, going on your phone or computer the next minute, realizing you are late, then rush your bath and maybe a morning coffee.
That way, you are already disorganized from the moment you leave your bedroom and this will affect your overall daily productivity. Having a structured start to your day will help you eliminate stress and mental fatigue and gives you foresight of your day.
The first step to take to have a successful morning routine is to set a particular time you want to wake up. Then figure out what it is that calm and refreshes you. It could be a morning run, mediation, yoga, journaling, exercises, or a combination of some or all.
You could practice gratitude or establish a prayer routine if you are religious. It could be having a healthy breakfast or listening to podcasts or music. Whatever it is that makes you feel 100% charged and calms your nerves in the morning, make it a habit with consistency.
In fact, a hack to getting this right and making it have a major impact on your life is, finding out the morning routine of those who inspire you. Trust me, every successful person has an established morning routine.
This habit would improve your daily life and productivity.
2. Inaugurate The Pareto Principle

The Pareto principle according to Investopedia is named after the esteemed economist Vilfredo Pareto and it specifies that 80% of consequences come from 20% of the causes. The Pareto principle is also known as the 80/20 rule. This principle, when cultivated into a habit, can improve your daily life and most importantly, your productivity.
The Pareto principle states that there is an imbalance between inputs and outputs, that is, 80% of the consequences come from 20% of the causes. In applying this to your daily life, you must understand that it is not how many tasks you do but how many results the tasks you are doing will bring.
You must rid your mind of the myth that the smaller tasks and less important tasks that you have to do must be done first. Inaugurating the Pareto principle in your daily lifestyle means that in any situation, 20% of the tasks yield 80% of the results.
Like I mentioned earlier, there is a myth or a general perception that when you have tasks to do, it is better to do the smaller ones first. That is a wrong perception and a hindrance to productivity. You can maximize productivity by investing most of your time and energy on the specific tasks that will make a major impact.
Brain Tracy says “eat the biggest and ugliest frog first.” This means that you must do the bigger and harder tasks first. It would boost your confidence in finishing other smaller tasks.
Inculcating the Pareto principle in doing your tasks is an effective habit that can improve your daily life and your daily productivity. It would boost your confidence, your effectiveness and help you reach your desire goals faster.
3. Set Healthy Boundaries

You need to set boundaries for people around you and even situations that might affect your mental health. This will save you from the emotional stress of breaking down in the middle of the day and at large affecting your daily output. It also builds a certain degree of self-preservation, self-respect, and self-worth.
You can set healthy boundaries for yourself. For instance, you can set a limit to how much you spend in a week and stick to that budget, you can limit your social media time, you can decide not to work past a certain time, you can and should set a sleep and wake up time, etc. Also, you must take intentional steps in letting people around you know where the line stops.
For instance, you can keep your business at work strictly professional, you can let your friends know that there is a time limit you set for yourself during hangouts, you can let people know it is not okay for them to joke about certain things.
Let people know when you need space so they do not encroach, communicate properly too. Set healthy boundaries, ones that will do you and the other person a lot of good. Setting healthy boundaries for yourself will really improve your daily life.
Imagine going through a day where everybody or almost everybody respects your “circle”, how sane that day would go? Imagine having a sane day every day, well, you’d be saying hello to an improved mental and physical health, and hello to an improved life.
Make it a habit to ensure no one crosses a line and if they do, you let them know it. Having these boundaries set gives no room for people to walk all over you. Setting boundaries is a key step you should include in your daily habits to improve life.
4. Take A Break

Just as it says, take a break when you are tired. This ranges from getting your eyes off the screen to taking a cup of tea/coffee to listening to some soothing music according to your taste to taking a power nap to taking a day off to taking a whole week off and spending it in another place.
I’m not saying you should neglect your responsibilities, just push them aside in that moment. You are not a machine; even machines breakdown when they overwork.
You need a break no matter how tight your schedule may be. The benefit that taking a break has on one’s mental health alone is superb. If you can spare time, you will clear your head of that clutter. If you keep on building things in your head, it affects your life as a whole.
What’s bothering you that you have to put yourself in an untangled knot? Sometimes a clear head helps you think better. Take a walk, play video games; just stay away from things that’ll have you walking smack into a wall.
Do you want to function properly? Take a break. You want to pass that test, take a break in-between reading. You want to ace that presentation; take a break (might realize you haven’t ironed your clothes). So, what am I trying to say? Breaks are essential for a healthy living, don’t get all worked up and forget to exist.
Life moves on whether or not you relax, you don’t have to suffer for it. Actually, take a break, it would do you a whole lot of good mentally and physically and would very well improve your daily life. Taking a break is a necessity if you are conscious of the daily habits you can imbibe in improving your life.
5. Live In The Present Moment

Take one day at a time: Yeah, I know it’s way harder than it seems. We inevitably and frantically worry and wonder about tomorrow and wring our arms about the past that we lose sight of the present moment, the now, it slips by us until it’s the past, and then we are wringing our arms about it (rolls eyes).
Well stop it, it is not healthy, what has that worrying and overthinking done to improve your daily life I ask? Take one day at a time. Yes, make those plans; they’re essential but also let life happen.
Notice your present moment and live. Leave tomorrow to when it becomes the present then live that one too. You can’t spend your whole life worrying about something you can’t see while still caught up in what has already happened.
I think we could use all that time to do something else, imagine you stopped to smell those flowers instead of having a black cloud over your head?
Start today, with those plans you made, they may or may not work out but your satisfaction will be immense and your disappointment minimal if you just take it one day at a time. Making those plans, you can do that as a daily habit to improve your life, but you also have to be conscious of the fact that life is in steps.
Keep a journal, record your thoughts, observations, smells, whatever, about that day, knowing you have to update your journal is sure to keep you grounded and focused on the present.
Set achievable daily goals, ones that will make you focus on today not the past or future but today. Stop preparing for the next moment, wrap this present moment around you, get lost in the flow such that you do not notice that time flew by. Living at the present moment, taking things one day at a time is sure to bring an improvement in your daily life.
6. Practice Self-Care

Step out of a building glowing like the sun, skin smooth and soft like a baby’s, people drawn to your positive aura, always a smile from you and for you; that’s what happens when you practice self-care.
Take care of yourself physically – eat fruits and vegetables, exercise more and regularly, get the right skincare products, take care of your hair let it bounce, sleep regularly, DRINK WATER.
Take care of yourself mentally – take breaks, read books and articles often, do mental exercises, have a debate/healthy argument once in a while (oh it helps), improve on yourself learn a skill or two, solve puzzles.
Build and improve on your social life – go out with friends, go on dates, attend a festival, take trips, volunteer, become a member of a community. Protect yourself emotionally – let nobody bring you down, express your feelings, try to avoid situations that would drive you raving mad, share love and laughter often while dispelling negative energy.
Basically, meditate, treat yourself, focus on your goals and achieve them, set healthy boundaries, reassure yourself, compliment yourself, take a warm long bath.
Do anything that is guaranteed to make you relax, content, and happy. I don’t need to tell you how much practicing self-care deliberately and thoroughly helps one’s life. The improvement is immensely beautiful. This is the last on our list of daily habits to improve your life.

With the way the world is now, practicing just one of the six habits I listed judiciously will have you functioning better physically and mentally.
When you take these habits one by one, getting used to doing one before starting another, I do not need to tell you how beautiful your life will be. Of course, the problems and stresses of the world have not disappeared, but you will be able to manage them better while spreading that positive energy to those you come in contact with.
