“Just as established products and brands need updating to stay alive and vibrant, you periodically need to refresh or reinvent yourself.” ~ Mireillle Guillana
Over the last few months, life has driven us through some dark, uncertain and elevational crossroads. Our behaviours, habits, success, routines and lives, in general, have been unpredictably affected and this has wrapped us around the dues of uncertainty, mental imbalance, anxiety, fear and doubt.
But one thing I want us to remember in this phase is that life is essentially an endless series of rebirth; through every crisis challenge, obstacle, limitation and disappointment there is always the factor and element of growth.
This can be a hard pill to swallow with everything buzzing around, the idea of making new adjustments to fit in the new routines, lifestyle and activities can be really overwhelming that is why it is mandatory that through the challenges, changes, obstacles and circumstances we examine, reinvent our lives, habits and activities and we are not limited or hindered in any way.
Our habits and behaviours are the vehicles that take us to where we want to go, they are the building blocks to our success hence it is very important that we continually decrease the negative habits in our lives and increase the positive habits at every step or circumstance we encounter.

I did a study on what it means to reinvent oneself. I figured that to reinvent oneself means to let go of things that are currently holding you back. It means letting go of outdated habits, roles and responsibilities that deter you from living your best life.
Reinvention is a journey to self-discovery. It is a process of freeing yourself from the shackles of whatever negativity that might be holding you down. It is a necessary process that everyone should go through.
Being stuck in life is one place I do think no one wants to be in. It is a terrible state and can lead to severe depression. More frightening is the fact that it has a way of not delaying your progress, and so, it is very important for you to take practical steps to know how to reinvent yourself and improve your life, regardless of your age or gender.
With the 10 simple ways I will be recommending here, I believe the reinvention process will be much easier. I know this sounds a lot but you don’t have to feel overwhelmed by these 10 steps. At the end of this article, I have attached a 30 day challenge you can embark on that is guaranteed to massively improve the quality of your life

Please note, if you wanted little stop-worrying tips like, “oh, think happy and have a soothing cup of coffee” you have come to the wrong place. That said, let’s proceed…
1. Challenge Yourself By Embracing Your Fears

Learning how to reinvent yourself, would require you to challenge yourself by embracing your fears. We all have our fears. We all have that one thing that sends chills down to our spines when we think about them.
Truth is, it is normal to have fears but how do you handle them? Do you allow your fears to take control of you? Do you let your fears distract you from discovering who you really are and making conscious efforts to change?
You might have your fears as you take on the challenge to be a better version of yourself. It could come as losing a friend, letting go of something you hold dear or anything else.
What really matters is that you are courageous enough to face it and deal with it. You would not achieve true reinvention if you do not give yourself the chance of embracing and facing your fears.
Remember, your fears are only as big as you make them. So, if you really want to be the best of yourself, you have to challenge yourself by embracing your fears.
2. Feel What Needs To Be Felt; Do Not Give Guilt A Chance

Never allow guilt come in your way of knowing how to reinvent yourself. It’s ok to admit that you made mistakes. It’s ok to agree to move on. Letting guilt get a grip on you would do you no good.
The essence of wanting to reinvent yourself is ensuring that an old part of you is killed and a new part of you is birthed. If you keep holding on to guilt, you will be disallowing yourself from having a complete reinvention.
As you grow, you are definitely going to get more in tune with some of the things you love and cut ties with some of the things you do not love. This is a normal process for everyone.
However, what’s not normal is beating yourself up for having wasted time, money or energy on what you did not like. Instead of doing that, you should move on and focus on reinventing yourself, since that’s what matters anyway.
3. Make Yourself Uncomfortable When You Need To

Sound crazy, right? Well, it is nothing but the truth. There are times when you just need to make sacrifices regarding certain things. No matter your age, the moment you start nursing the feeling of being too comfortable with something, you would not have a headway with the reinvention process.
Reinventing yourself most times comes with discomfort. You would have to break habits, skip meals, deliberately commit yourself to a cause and many more. These do not sound easy. They would require serious discipline.
So, if you are not ready to give that, then you can forget about the idea of reinventing yourself. Challenge yourself in a small way, although this might make you uncomfortable, you’ll end up being the best version of yourself.
4. Create A Vision/Plan Of Your Life

Knowing how to reinvent yourself requires a vision board. A few months back, I wrote a viral article on the need for having a vision board. A vision board keeps you focused.
You need a vision board if you intend to reinvent yourself. Why? A vision board makes you plot your strategies in clear cut terms. If you have a goal of reinventing yourself, you must have a well-tailored plan that will serve as a roadmap for you in your journey to self-discovery.
Having a vision board will make you move with focus. It’s best that you do this at the very early stages of your journey to self-discovery. Like I stated earlier, reinventing yourself is a journey. And for a journey to be successful, you must have an idea of where you are headed.
5. Letting Go

Sometimes, you need to realise that letting go is the best option in dealing with certain problems. Reinventing yourself sometimes means letting go of the past and allowing yourself to feel the present and anticipate the future.
I get that sometimes the hurt might be really deep and you letting go might be tough but think about it, what will holding onto your hurts, disappointments or pains do to you? If we are being realistic, it’s never going to do anything to you.
So, it’s best that you rather let go and face the reality of your situation, it is best to take responsibility rather than laying blames and holding on to the past. Holding on to your past would never let you go far. Let that hurt and pain go. Be free. That’s the only way you can know how to reinvent yourself.
I know letting go can be challenging and difficult, this is something I struggled with for a very long time so I know what it truly feels to be suffocated and controlled by past activities that were beyond your control.
So if you find yourself struggling with this feel free to reach out to me, send me an email or a direct message on Instagram and I will be more than willing to help you out in any way I can.
6. Link Pain With Staying Same

This is another way of knowing how to reinvent yourself. If you really want to change, then you have to link pain with staying the same.
In other words, staying the same must be seen as a taboo. If you do not link pain with it, you would end up being too comfortable with the outcome of your status and would see no need for reinvention.
If for instance, you have a habit of going late to events. That’s a bad habit that needs to be corrected. You would need to make conscious efforts to ensure that you kill that habit and that will be the core of your reinvention.
However, making correctional efforts isn’t always enough. You might need to consciously link pain to late-coming. The pain might be a feeling inadequate. Feeling inadequate is a bad feeling and can always be corrected if you put in efforts.
So, in order not to have that feeling, you would need to discipline yourself to avoid going late to events. The beautiful part of it all is that, the more you do it, the more you get used to it.
7. Believe You Can Do It (Belief = Results)

You will never be able to experience reinvention if you do not even believe it could happen in the first place. You would have to believe you can make your reinvention happen.
This is really hard, I must admit; especially with the fact that the current reality might not be making things easy, but you have to tell yourself that you can do it. And the moment you convince yourself into believing that, a lot will change.
Also, I have noticed that your level of belief in something is highly important in determining the results you would get. If in the first place, you do not believe in yourself or in the fact that you can do it, then the battle is already lost even without being fought.
8. Get A Mentor

Yes! Get someone who inspires you and pushes you to do better with their actions. A mentor isn’t necessarily someone who is really big and admired by a lot of persons.
People like that can be mentors, no doubt, but that doesn’t mean they can be your mentors. You have to sit down and look for someone whose values match yours and ethics align with yours. If you wish, you can decide to get close to them and if you don’t, you can be a mentee from afar. What this does is, it keeps you in check and always inspired.
I have mentors. I have people I look up to, seek advice from and admire a lot. their actions inspire me and make me want to be a better version of myself. So, if you are interested in reinventing yourself, you must be willing to have a mentor.
9. Make A Move

No athlete has ever been given awards for being the best trainee. No! An athlete earns his awards by earning it and how does it earn it? By taking the necessary step.
You need to make a move! It is not enough to wish to reinvent yourself. You would need to take conscious steps to ensure that you are actually active. Make a decision and go through with it. You can make plans as much as you can but nothing counts if you do not take a step to making your plans a reality.
10. Wake Up Early

Lastly, on the list is the need to wake up early. In the bid to reinvent yourself, you must be willing to sacrifice your sleep. This is not to say that you should always deprive yourself of quality sleep! But like they say, “early to bed, early to rise”.
So, if you really have the intention of being a better version of yourself, you must be willing to sleep early and wake early to attack your goals.
So, there you have it, folks! 10 simple ways to know how to reinvent yourself and improve your life at any age. Do not forget that knowing how to continually reinvent yourself is solely in your hands.
If you are willing, you will achieve knowing how to reinvent yourself physically (and that includes your looks), how to reinvent yourself after a breakup, the meaning of reinventing yourself and many more!
I hope you have learned a thing or two with the points listed above. Let me know in the comment section if you think there’s something missing in the list.

Many years ago, I decided I wanted to move on – level up – or reinvent myself.
1. I changed my job, from business to working in an education environment.
2. This led to me doing a course in teaching basic skills.
3. I then applied and got a job as a teaching assistant.
4. Whereupon I did another course, this led to a promotion, working in the English department.
5,. As a result I then took a actual teaching qualification, mentored by my colleagues. I passed with a good grade.
I thereby I had changed my life from dealing with business to teaching remedial English to students who needed that extra help. I had found my work passion.
Of course other things changed along the way, but finding my passion was the change I wanted and needed.
Hello Adam,
I enjoyed reading through your article, and think it could be helpful for some who want to make personal improvements. However, letting go of past hurts can be more complex for others and may require professional counseling. You might want to note that in future articles on this topic. Best wishes, Gloria
