How To Make Time Out For The Absolute “Me-Day”

“The most powerful relationship you will ever have is the relationship with yourself” ~Steve Marble

Ever wondered what it would feel like to have a whole day exclusive to yourself? It’s the best treat you could ever give to yourself because no one can treat you better than you do.

Having a “me-day” means you get to take a break from having to deal with other people. It’s a time when you get to relax and embrace the feeling of enjoying your own company. It’s even more fun because you don’t get to have “me-days” every day so the times you get to have it you value it.

You may have stumbled upon some “me-day” quotes and have thought about trying it out. It could be once a month, once in two months or even quarterly. It depends on how flexible your schedule is or how much free time you have at your disposal.

A “me-day” helps you discover how much you have inside of you and helps you unpack your full potential because it is also a process of self-discovery. It’s like having a day where you get to know yourself better, know the changes that have occurred in your personality because the only thing constant in life is change.

Although there might not be major changes, the little ones are worth finding out. Making out time for yourself is very easy once you set your mind to it. It may seem like you do not have the time at first ponder but when you look at it, there’s nothing more refreshing than a day set aside to yourself.

A “me-day” is that time you get to try new things, give yourself so much time to think about what you’re getting right and what you’re not.

Dealing with people can be very exhausting and draining but when it comes to dealing with yourself, it’s a walk in the park because you have all the information about your do’s and don’ts without having to rack your brain. That’s why if you are not having time for yourself, I wonder what time you’re having.

I’ll be sharing a few tips on ways you can spend some alone time and actually enjoy doing it.

1.  Get Enough Sleep To Launch You Into Your “Me-Day”

Once you have planned your day, the next step is to rest well into your day. You should deactivate your alarm clock and let your body wake up when it decides that it has gotten enough sleep.

To make your day even more fun and ceremonial, you could clad yourself in your favorite pajamas or nightdress, brush your hair and carry out a few skin-care routines to launch you into your day feeling more beautiful and confident.

Once you wake up and you’re feeling like it’s premature or you still need more sleep, go back to bed. The goal is to spoil yourself and to practice self-care.

Nevertheless, once you get out of bed don’t just jump into the activities that you have planned out for the day. You should take at least 30 minutes to meditate or do some sort of yoga-related concentration to open your mind and leave you feeling better refreshed and self-appreciative.

2.  Start Your Day With Your Bubble Bath Or A Long Shower

This is one of the first steps in taking a break from your life. You don’t have to rush your bath, you should take things slow and easy. Soak yourself in your tub or run yourself a hot bath. You can spice things up by playing nice, slow and soothing music to calm your nerves.

You could also pour yourself a glass of whatever drink you like or is available and sip it slowly as you have your bath as though you have all the time in the world because, for that day, you do.

3.  Go For A Drive

Driving doesn’t necessarily mean going to a specific destination. You could just decide to take yourself on a tour to different places around your surroundings. While you’re driving, you could engage yourself by playing one of your favorite songs and singing along. You could also turn on your radio and tune it to your favorite radio station as listening to your radio makes you feel entertained.

The process of driving allows you to visit places you haven’t been before and to really take notice of the buildings and surroundings which you didn’t notice before because you hardly ever paid close attention to it when you’re running your normal daily activities.

After driving for a while, make stops at certain intervals when you feel like you need to go over to make direct contact with your surroundings. Before finally heading home, you can buy yourself something new to mark the trip you just had alone.

4.  Eat Your Favorite Meal

There is no better time to eat your favorite meal then on your self-care day. You can start by cooking or baking your favorite meal for only your consumption. If you’re not the type that enjoys cooking, you can order food or eat your meal at a restaurant.

It would be better to order your meal if you are capable of bumping into a friend at the restaurant. Even when you are on a diet or you are trying to reduce or cut down the intake of your favorite meal, you should take the chance just for that day.

5.  Try Out A New Recipe

For those who love cooking you could spice things up a little by trying something new. A cooking experiment is a fun activity because you express yourself freely with the ingredients.

You could combine really absurd ingredients and be surprised why it was never a recipe in the first place. This is a good way of putting your curiosity and creativity to good use. If the food turns out delicious or a relish, you’ve just gotten a new recipe that you discovered all by yourself.

6.  Take Yourself Out For Dinner

Going on dinner dates are so much fun and exciting but going for dinner all by yourself is daring. When you summon up the boldness to dress yourself up and go for dinner all by yourself, it shows how much confidence you have within you. You can wear something really fabulous, do your make up and look beautiful just for yourself.

7.  Do A Hobby Or Something You Love Doing

Most of the time, you do not get enough time to do the things you actually love to do especially if you have kids or your job is very demanding.

Sometimes, you find out that you can actually squeeze a little time to carry out your hobbies but you either feel not so good because the time is never enough or you’d rather dedicate your free time to resting and putting things in place for your job or family.

This is actually absolutely normal because you have to set your priorities straight. Nevertheless, a “me-day” affords you the luxury of time to do your hobbies without any “times up” syndrome.

If you are the kind that likes to draw, you could go out and enjoy the cool breeze while you draw or you could stay at the painting room or attic (if you have one) and put those brushes to good use. If you like sports, you could go out and play or you should watch it on TV, you can do the things you love to do because you have a whole day exclusive to you.

8.  You Can Go On A Shopping Spree

This idea may not be very affordable and easy but it is definitely what it is. Who doesn’t like the idea of getting something new? It doesn’t matter how many things you can get for yourself, the most important thing is that you get to go outside and spoil yourself.

You can start things up by going to the boutique or window-shopping and taking a bold step by trying on stuff that you think would actually fit. Even if you can’t buy all the very nice options that you love you could pick at least one outfit to add to your wardrobe collection.

9.  Visit The Spa

The best tip on how to recharge yourself is going for a spa treatment. Taking yourself to the spa and watching yourself feeling spoiled and pampered is the best feeling ever.

The feeling you get while the spa treatments are ongoing is really great but the feeling you get after a spa session is even greater. You’ll feel more recharged, beautiful, more confident and you feel extra comfortable in your own skin. It’s like you are floating on air! When you have a spa session, be rest assured that you are getting quality self-care.

10.  Try-On A New Look

A huge chunk of how you look like is in your hair. You can do other things that’ll make you look different in a positive way but I’ll be concentrating on trying on a new look by getting your hair done differently.

If you are the kind of person who has always worn your hair in bangs, you could try taking off the bangs and actually show off your cute forehead and give a little more attention to your brows and eyes. If you have a punk style, you could try something else that looks good and would actually suit you.

Trying on a new look doesn’t actually mean getting a nose job or any form of surgical adjustment. Doing this would actually steal the intention of having a “me-day” because you will spend your entire day trying to fix something in yourself that you do not like. Don’t forget the aim of “me-day” is self-care!

11.  Go Watch A Movie Alone

Whether you are going to the cinema to watch a movie or you’re staying home to watch that movie on your TV, watching movies alone is great. Nothing breaks your concentration because you don’t have to stop at intervals to smile at your companion or even share a laugh or two from one of the movie scenes.

Watching movies alone also helps to improve your mind because your concentration level is at its maximum especially if you are seeing a movie that you love.

You don’t feel shy to express yourself because there is no one watching. It is just you and your television if you are home or you and a couple of people who would almost certainly not be paying any attention to you, especially since the lights would be off.

12.  Do Something You Wouldn’t Normally Do When You Are Around Other People

It’s just you! There’s no one watching and no one judging. This is the right time to do all the things you would hold yourself back from doing when you’re around other people. It wouldn’t be so embarrassing anymore because there’s no one to watch you.

It may be that you don’t like dancing when other people are around because you feel that you don’t know how or you are just shy and scared that people would make fun of you.

Your “me-day” is an opportunity to turn up your music and move your body to those crazy beats that you’ve always wanted to. You could also play pretend if you love to. It might be imagining that you are on stage when you’re only just in front of your mirror or acting as though you are a popular TV host.

13.  Take A Walk In The Park

You don’t only go for walks when you are in your worst mood or feeling down and depressed. Going for walks every now and then is advantageous because it helps to clear or declutter your mind.

It is a period that you get to think about certain things, do some personal evaluation and make some really necessary decisions. It could also be a time that you get to connect better with yourself. When you go for walks occasionally, you feel relaxed and in the best position to discover new stuff about yourself.

You get to discover what you love doing, what food you love to eat (especially when you get something to eat on the street as you enjoy your walk), the places you like better and even those things you used to like in the past but find yourself losing interest in.

Since it is alone time, you get the chance to study different strangers and analyze why people act the way they do. It is like watching a movie, only that you’re in that movie.

14.  Go To The Beach

Visit the beach alone and spend your time enjoying the nice and warm atmosphere. You can pack a light snack for yourself and just eat it while you’re enjoying your time alone. You could also try lying on a mat and facing the sun or enjoy playing with the sand. Once you do this, you’ll feel energized.

15.  Write A Letter To Yourself

Writing a letter to yourself is a really nice activity. You can decide if you want the letter to be to your past, present or future self. Whichever you choose, that is the first step to self-development. Address the letter to yourself and place it in a box. You would appreciate reading it a couple of years to come.

This practice or activity is very advantageous and beneficial to your emotional health because it is an avenue to express yourself, chat about your insecurities freely, your successes and the people in your life you are most grateful for.

Doing this is like pouring your heart to someone, the only difference is that you’re not actually saying it, your pen is doing all the talking and this is a good way to vent or feel better about yourself.

And let me quickly add, I’ll be launching my first ever self-development journal by the fall of this year, I am excited to help you with this journal and I hope that it’ll be of help to every single person who gets a copy.

16.  Watch Funny YouTube Videos

There’s no better way to get a good laugh than going on YouTube to watch diverse amazing and completely hilarious videos. Insane right?

You can spend hours doing it if you find yourself enjoying it so much that you just can’t help but keep your eyes fixed on your phone or laptop screen. The advantage of watching funny YouTube videos is that it has a provision for every audience category.

If you are a teenager, you could watch teen funny videos and if you’re an adult, you could try watching adult funny videos. Similarly, if you’re a religious conscious person, you can select funny videos that are not offensive to your beliefs.

17.  Make A Video Of Yourself

This practice is very good and helpful in self-love and appreciation. You can start by goofing around and actually enjoying watching yourself have fun behind the camera dancing, playing dress-up or even saying random stuff. If your video turns out to be nicer than you thought it would be, you can open a YouTube channel and have a number of people watch you online.

18.  Try Karaoke

Don’t you ever wonder why people love karaoke nights? It is because it is one of the easiest fun activities to pull off. You could have your own karaoke time in the comfort of your home and enjoy singing a song you love as loud as you want. You could decide to go to a karaoke club alone and have your fun time there.

19.  Go Swimming

Swimming is most enjoyable when the weather is a bit warm. You could go outside to the poolside nearby, put on your swimsuit or bikini and use the swimming pool. If you have a pool in your house, that’s even more fantastic. If you can make a smoothie or Chapman before swimming, it’ll be much more relaxing.

20.  Gaming

Playing games is the best form of treat some category of persons can give themselves on their “me-day”. For those who absolutely love games and the excitement that comes with it, this is a perfect activity. You could set a high score target and try to meet up to it.

You could also try to beat your previous records and enjoy the satisfactory feeling that comes with it. Online gaming is also a perfect option for those who don’t like playing games alone.

You can easily interact with the person you are playing the game with or against to give you the feeling that you’re on a team or in an actual battle. While getting set for game time, you could whip up some snacks for yourself.
